Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts that have not been published previously and are not under consideration by another journal. All submissions must fall within the aims and scope of the Journal of Applied Science and Technology in Engineering (JASTE).

Manuscripts must address a clearly defined engineering or technological problem and demonstrate appropriate technical, experimental, analytical, or computational methods; measurable validation; originality; and a relevant contribution to the development or improvement of systems, devices, processes, products, infrastructure, or technological solutions.

JASTE primarily publishes research in electrical engineering, telecommunication engineering, electronics, instrumentation, control systems, signal and image processing, communication networks, embedded systems, the Internet of Things, computing technologies for engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and other closely related engineering technologies.

Studies applied to health, education, agriculture, industry, environmental management, business, or public services may be considered only when their principal problem, methodology, validation, and contribution are clearly grounded in engineering or technology.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts must be written in clear and concise English using Times New Roman, 11-point font, 1.15 line spacing, A4 paper, and standard margins. The recommended manuscript length is 5,000–8,000 words, including references, tables, and figures. Pages should be numbered consecutively.

Authors must use internationally recognized technical terminology and standard units of measurement. The International System of Units (SI) should be used wherever applicable. Mathematical symbols, equations, abbreviations, and technical terms must be defined clearly and used consistently throughout the manuscript.

Manuscript Types

JASTE accepts the following types of manuscripts:

1. Original research articles;

2. Applied engineering studies;

3. Experimental or computational studies;

4. Systematic reviews and scoping reviews;

5. Conceptual or methodological studies; and

6. Technical case studies with measurable engineering contributions.

Manuscript Structure

Original research and applied engineering manuscripts should generally be organized in the following order:

1. Title;

2. Author names and affiliations;

3. Corresponding author’s email address;

4. Abstract;

5. Keywords;

6. Introduction;

7. Methods or System Design;

8. Results and Discussion;

9. Conclusion;

10. Acknowledgments, if applicable;

11. Funding statement;

12. Conflict-of-interest statement;

13. Data-availability statement; and

14. References.

Systematic reviews, scoping reviews, conceptual studies, and technical case studies may use a structure appropriate to their study design, provided that the methodology, evidence, analysis, and engineering or technological contribution are presented clearly.

Title

The title must be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the engineering or technological content of the manuscript. The title should identify the principal system, method, device, process, technology, or technical problem investigated and should preferably not exceed 20 words.

Abstract and Keywords

The abstract must contain 150–250 words and be written as a single paragraph without citations. It should briefly describe the background, technical problem, objective, methods, principal results, validation, and conclusion of the study.

Authors must provide three to five keywords that accurately represent the principal engineering field, technology, method, system, or application discussed in the manuscript.

Introduction

The introduction should explain the technical background, research problem, relevant scientific or engineering literature, research gap, objective, and expected contribution of the study. The novelty and significance of the proposed method, system, device, model, process, or technological solution must be stated explicitly.

Methods or System Design

The methods section must provide sufficient information to allow the study to be evaluated and, where possible, replicated. Authors should clearly describe the research design, materials, equipment, datasets, software, hardware, algorithms, system architecture, experimental procedures, analytical methods, performance indicators, and validation procedures used in the study.

When established methods or technical standards are used, authors must provide appropriate citations. Any modification to an existing method, algorithm, instrument, or system must be explained clearly.

Results and Discussion

Results must be presented accurately and supported by appropriate measurements, experiments, simulations, comparisons, statistical analyses, or performance evaluations. Authors should report relevant technical indicators, limitations, uncertainty, errors, or boundary conditions.

The discussion should interpret the findings, compare them with previous studies or established benchmarks, explain their engineering significance, and clarify the contribution of the study to theory, practice, system development, or technological innovation.

Technical Validation

Engineering and technology manuscripts must provide measurable validation appropriate to the study. Validation may include experimental testing, simulation results, prototype evaluation, performance benchmarking, accuracy assessment, reliability testing, usability testing for technical systems, security testing, comparative analysis, or validation using recognized standards.

A manuscript that only describes a technology without a rigorous technical method, measurable evaluation, or demonstrable engineering contribution may be rejected during editorial screening.

Conclusion

The conclusion should summarize the main findings and directly address the research objective. It should clearly state the technical contribution, practical implications, limitations, and potential directions for future engineering or technological development.

Tables, Figures, and Equations

Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively according to their appearance in the text and accompanied by clear titles or captions. All tables and figures must be cited and discussed in the manuscript.

Images, diagrams, graphs, circuit designs, system architectures, and other illustrations must be clear and of sufficient resolution for publication. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted materials.

Equations must be presented clearly, numbered consecutively when referenced in the text, and accompanied by definitions of all variables and symbols.

References

References must be relevant, current, and formatted according to the APA 7th Edition citation style. Authors are encouraged to cite recent peer-reviewed literature, particularly journal articles published within the last ten years, while retaining older references that are essential to the theoretical or technical foundation of the study.

All sources cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and every reference listed must be cited in the manuscript. Authors should prioritize primary and authoritative sources and avoid excessive citation of non-scholarly websites.

Data, Software, and Technical Materials

Authors should provide sufficient information regarding the availability of datasets, software, source code, algorithms, models, instruments, technical drawings, or supplementary materials required to evaluate or reproduce the study, subject to ethical, legal, security, intellectual-property, and confidentiality restrictions.

Ethical Requirements

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality, accuracy, and integrity of their manuscripts. Plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, duplicate submission, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, and undisclosed conflicts of interest are prohibited and may result in rejection or retraction.

Research involving human participants, personal data, biomedical devices, animals, hazardous materials, environmental risks, or safety-critical engineering systems must comply with applicable ethical, legal, institutional, and technical requirements. Ethical approval, informed consent, safety procedures, data-protection measures, or institutional authorization must be reported whenever required.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence tools must not be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, citations, technical content, and conclusions of the manuscript. Any substantial use of generative artificial intelligence in preparing text, code, images, data analysis, or other research materials must be disclosed transparently in accordance with the journal’s editorial policy.

Submission and Review Process

All manuscripts must be submitted through the JASTE online submission system. Each submission undergoes an initial editorial screening to evaluate its relevance to the journal’s scope, technical quality, originality, completeness, ethical compliance, and adherence to these guidelines.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are checked for plagiarism and evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Authors may be required to revise their manuscripts in response to editorial and reviewer comments before a final decision is made.

Copyright and Open Access

Authors retain the copyright to their work while granting JASTE the right to publish the accepted manuscript. Published articles are made freely accessible under the journal’s open-access policy and applicable copyright licence to support the dissemination and responsible use of scientific and technological knowledge.

Language

Manuscripts must be written in grammatically correct academic English. Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to obtain professional language editing or careful proofreading before submission. Poorly written manuscripts that prevent proper technical evaluation may be returned to the authors before peer review.
